Battle Ruins – IV.XIII.MMXIX
Self-released
Year in year out one of the most anticipated releases is without a doubt a release by the mighty Battle Ruins! Whether it be a re-press, a variation of a record or something completely new, me – and a whole horde of likeminded savages – want it, preferably sooner than later. Earlier this year Rock ‘N’ Roll Disgrace already served us a second run of 2018’s superb LP “Glorious Dead”, but with the “IV.XII.MMXIX” demo the Bostonians come back with a vengeance through three all new songs!
As the title of the demo might suggest already, this cassette was supposed to be on sale at their show in Paris on the 13th of April (2019) – if the duplication of the tapes didn’t get massively delayed that is. But it did, and there for the first run of this demo (200 copies) will be available for the first time at the Last Rights/Lion’s Law/Conmen/Please Die/The Royal Hounds show this Saturday – May 18 (2019) – at the Middle East club in Cambridge, MA. Don’t worry though, unsold copies and another batch of this release will follow shortly, so don’t overpay on Discogs just yet!
The music then. Did Battle Ruins ever disappoint? No they did not and “IV.XII.MMXIX” is no exception! With the instruments recorded live on a 4-track (and the vocals added afterwards), this demo obviously sounds slightly rawer than both LP’s – but fairly brilliant nonetheless! Including three tracks; namely “White Death Calling”, “Hell’s Raiders” and “The Storm Of Lead”, Battle Ruins stomps out well over ten minutes of heroism and annihilation, packed into their illustrious, trade-mark sound of Oi!, rock and metal – sounding sick as always!
Therefor the question isn’t really if you want it – because you know you do, but whether you can get it or not. As said, more copies are coming, so there is no need to panic – yet! A massive demo that makes me hungry for the next LP! Hell’sssss Raaaiiiiiiiideeerrss!
