Blå Brigader - Kråkornas Sång

Dim Records

Blå Brigader was formed, somewhat by accident, when childhood friends John and Robban were asked to record two tracks for the fifth edition of Ultima Thule’s compilation series “Carolus Rex” in 2001. Ever since the band contributed to editions six, seven and eight as well and three full-length albums have been recorded of which the last, “Glömskans Sista Timmar”, dates back to 2009 already. Time for something new I’d say and on their latest release, the CD-single “Kråkornas Sång”, that is exactly what you are getting!

“Kråkornas Sång” contains four brand new songs and delivers a nice mixture of beautiful Viking rock melodies, a punk attitude and ska-ish rhythms. Three out of four tracks are Blå Brigader originals, but the one that stands out is a cover version of Britain’s anarcho-punks Conflict. The band’s members John and Robban always jammed punk covers before Blå Brigader was even a band and a Conflict cover seems an odd choice for a patriotic band, but their take on “The Serenade Is Dead”, that is completely sung in Swedish (“Sången Är Död”), turns out to be an excellent choice!

Therefor “Kråkornas Sång” is an excellent ‘comeback’ from Blå Brigader! The blend of Swedish folklore, tradition and the ‘Vikingarock’ sound infused with other styles and influences produces a great CD-single that is a must-hear for all you longship rowing Vikings out there!
