Boots-N-Booze Graphic Novel Anthology Volume 3 w/ Speciall Guest – Don’t Fit b/w Nite Klub
Boots-N-Booze Comics/Pirates Press Records
Roughly a year after the last Boots-N-Booze the Santa Cruz crew is back with another issue full of raucous tales that were lived and now told and drawn by the Californians themselves! As always, the graphic novel also features a nice 45 with some obscure tracks on it, and this time around the soundtrack is provided by local two-tone outfit Speciall Guest!
First up the graphic novel, which – once again – looks pretty damn cool if you ask me! This third volume is very colorful with fun stories, great drawings and some awesome individual pieces by the likes of Danny Boy Smith, James Reitano and the Swingin’ Utters’ very own Johnny Peebucks! Since it’s a graphic novel with only around 44 pages total it’s a pretty quick read – just like Volume 1 and 2 actually, but the total package makes it worth every penny!
Because as said, the graphic novel also features a brand new single released by Pirates Press Records! Previous issues featured singles by Swingin’ Utters and The Liquidators – both with recordings from the early 90’s – but for this issue we go all the way back to the early 80’s with Speciall Guest! Never heard of them before (obviously), but A-side “Don’t Fit” - which also appeared on the band’s 1984 demo – is a nice little stomper, while the sound quality of the live cover of The Specials’ “Nite Klub” (RIP Terry Hall) on the flipside is questionable, but fun nonetheless.
Now I am not sure how many more of these long lost memories, stories and recordings can be dug up, but I can – and I actually am – getting used to the fact that this is becoming an annual thing making me hope the Boots-N-Booze staff can keep it up! Obviously a must if you own its previous issues!
