Brewdriver - Etelä-Savo Oi!
DIY
They sure seem to love to put the word brew into a band name in Finland. After Ultra Brewtality I have now been notified to Brewdriver in the form of their promo CD-R “Etelä-Savo Oi!”. On the CD-R are a couple of tracks that should help getting the Brewdriver name out there again after the, now reformed, band split-up in the late 90’s!
The photocopies, do it yourself, sleeve speaks of two songs, but on the CD-R are actually three tracks. Something I absolutely don’t mind, because the two songs spoken of on the sleeve (“Hirvijahti” and “Turpa Kiinni”) are absolute stompers, while the third track (“Läski Apina”) has a clean Templars / early-Perkele alike sound. Since my Finnish is absolute rubbish, I can’t tell what the songs are about, but luckily enough a little explanation about tracks is included. Brewdriver is ‘havin’ a laugh and havin’ a say’ on this promo, because where “Hirvijahti” is a humorous story about moose hunting, “Turpa Kiinni” its lyrics are based on the phrase ‘good night any side’ and “Läski Apina” (meaning “Fat Monkeys”) is about those that should care about what is going in the world, but really don’t and just sit back like… exactly, fat monkeys.
I am really liking what I hear on the “Etelä-Savo Oi!” promo CD-R and since these tracks were already recorded back in 2012 I am really curious how these guys sound in 2015! Let’s hope their music, preferably new, is getting out there soon. Because despite Finnish being one hell of a crazy language (no offence) for us non-Finnish, this band needs to be heard throughout Finland and beyond!
