Brutal Bravo / The Lads – Split 12”

Contra Records

With Brutal Bravo and The Lads Contra Records undoubtedly has two of Germany’s finest, newer Oi! bands in house! Both from Freiburg and both with a no holds barred, uncompromising sound, the question was not if they would ever do a split release – but when it would be released. Fortunately, that time is now and even better – it’s a 12”!

First up is Brutal Bravo who previously released a demo 7” and the “Über Alles” EP – making this release their third in a relatively short amount of time. Good though, because as the latter EP title already states these guys are above all – and the three new songs on this 12” prove just that! The lyrics got a good sense of humor, but the music is dead serious savagery with that brute, extremely powerful sound! Needless to say that all tracks – “The Last One Of Your Kind”, “I Drink Alone” and “No Ballads In Oi!” – are favorites, bravo!

On the flipside we find The Lads, a pack of lunatics who debuted on Contra Records a year prior to this 12” with the excellent “Counterculture” LP. The eleven songs on the album were fun, raw and real – just like the three songs on this split! Heavily bass driven’, The Lads’ sound is a bit rougher around the edges than of their collegues, but musically just as strong and explosive! Nothing but raucous scorchers with “Social State”, “Ideology” and “Courtroom Song”!

Released on oxblood red vinyl (200 copies, already sold out) and black vinyl (300 copies), the record itself comes in a printed inner sleeve containing all lyrics. No ballads, just pure impact - a must-have!
