Béton Armé – S/T

LSC Records

Damn! While I was still recovering from LSC Records’ last batch of releases by Force Majeure, Honour Guard and City Ground, the Cannucks already had their next demo-release lined up! Honestly though, what’s in the water over there? Because LSC is absolutely nailing it at the moment, being guilty of crackin’ out one killer release after another, with exhibit eighteen – actually the label’s catalog number LSC018 – proving just that!

Meet Béton Armé, a new band out of Montreal who just debuted with their self-titled demo-tape on LSC Records. You never heard of them you say? Well, that is quite possible of course, but I reckon that will change soon – especially if you like your Oi! music in French! Singlehandedly these guys revive the classic sound of the 80’s, almost making you think that these tracks were some long lost recordings for Chaos Productions, originally set to be released in 1985 or 1986!

Everything about this release just breaths authenticity and respect for the past. From the buzz saw guitars to the excellent artwork and everything in between, this release is an absolute gem! The five tracks – namely; “Hypocrite”, “Béton Armé”, “Pendules à L’heure”, “Quartier Populaire” and PremièreLigne” – are some of the best demo tracks I have heard all year, making it no surprise the first run of this cassette sold out in the blink of an eye!

Admittedly, this run only consisted of 50 copies, but still – the second run of 25 ‘blue’ copies and 75 ‘red’ copies, is selling like hot cakes as well and for good reasons! Don’t sleep on this release and LSC Records, make sure Béton Armé gets the vinyl treatment as well! This release deserves it.
