Chips Ov Oi! – Make Pogo Great Again
Tape Or Die (CASS) / Self-released (LP/CD)
Ready to po-dough, err I mean pogo?! Well, you better be – because Chips Ov Oi! is here! Delivering chocolate chipped pogo punk since 2015, these crazy Canadians finally pulled their first full-length cookie – “Make Pogo Great Again” – out of the oven and it sure as hell is tasty!
Kicking out eleven masterclasses in the art of pogo punk, Chips Ov Oi! is both hilarious and brilliant at the same time! Hilarious because most – if not all – lyrics are completely over the top, and brilliant because every single track is structured into perfection, extremely addictive and, wait… let me turn on that caps lock button for a moment, FUN – FUN – FUN!
Seriously, once this record goes on – I just can’t turn it off! Hit after hit and sing-along after sing-along flashes by, and before you know it you spend four or five hours listening to songs about cookies, doing the pogo, cookies, punk, cookies, spikey hair that murders and even more cookies! It sounds ridiculous, but it’s not – it’s just the way the cookie crumbles, because with anthems like “Smash A Cookie (In Your Beer)”, “Pogo In The Welfare Line”, “Oh No! Ogopogo!”, “Chocolate Chips (Not Fish And Chips)”, “Guilty As Charged” and “Punk, Drunk, Oi!”, Chips Ov Oi! is indeed making pogo great again!
Undisputed favorite is without a doubt “Pogo I’m In Love”, a mid-tempo serenade to Chips Ov Oi!’s everlasting love – pogo punk! ‘77’s pretty cool, also UK82. Post and proto also do, but pogo I’m in love!’, can I get an amen? Amen!
“Make Pogo Great Again” is available through the band on CD (100 copies) and vinyl (either black or white vinyl, 250 copies each), and on cassette (100 copies, including a free pin and… is that a bite taken out of the j-card?) through Tape Or Die. The latter includes two bonus-tracks taken off the band’s 2016 demo, namely “Up The System” and “Deadend Depression” – both covers by respectively Blanks 77 and the Threats.
A must for fans of The Discocks, early The Casualties, The Dick Spikie, Blanks 77, Tom And The Bootboys, The Bad Engrish, The Erections, Who Killed Spikey Jacket?, Pok Gai etc… And remember, it’s a way of life, never change your way – it’s a way of life, eat a cookie a day!
