Cock Sparrer - Forever
Pirates Press Records / Randale Records / Chase The Ace Records
Wow. I never thought that I would review a brand new Cock Sparrer album when I started this site. But here I sit in my living room, listening to the new Cock Sparrer album "Forever" and writing that review I never thought I would write. That same review no one will give two shits about, because everyone will buy this album blindly and for good reasons. Because I am not just sitting here in my living room, I am sitting here in amazement and pure excitement, simply because "Forever" can be described in one simple word. That very same word I began this paragraph with. Wow!
Because who would have thought that a band, going strong for 45 years already, could write another album that EASILY matches up with all their previous classics? Personally I would have been sceptic over it, but as the biography already describes – Cock Sparrer is selective in when and where they play, and more importantly, selective in what gets released. "Forever" is just the sixth full-length in four and a half decades after all. But the selectivity shows, because the new album displays pure, absurd quality with songs that will be sung along to for another four and a half decades to come!
Sure it misses the familiarity, nostalgia and what all those classic Cock Sparrer songs have right now, but that is only a matter of time. Namely because "Forever" is infected with earwurms, songs you want to keep listening to over and over... and over again, bound to remain stuck in your head for hours, days, weeks, months and eventually years to come! My personal favorite off "Forever" is "Nothing Like You", those superb melodies and that ultra-catchy chorus are just timeless and easily pushes itself in my list of all-time favorite SParrer tunes – stunning!
But as said, from start to finish all anthems that are featured on "Forever" are from absurd quality! "One By One", "Gonna Be Alright", "Don't Tell Anyone Anything", "Family Of One", "In My Town", "Contender", "I've Had Enough", "Us Against The World"… I could literally just sum them all up, because even after 45 years Cock Sparrer truly still delivers hit after hit! So yes, get excited, get pumped up and get "Forever" when it comes out at the end of the week (21st of April) - it will be the best start of your weekend, ever! Now if only these guys could go on for another 45 years...
