Codi De Silenci - És El Moment

Ever since I heard the new Catalonian Oi! band Codi De Silenci for the first time through YouTube I have been an instant fan and got extremely stoked about their upcoming debut EP “És El Moment”! Now the wait is over with the release through small German DIY label Shout Proud Records on ultra-limited black vinyl (50 copies, CD included) and still-pretty-damn-limited clear blue vinyl (100 copies)… 12” vinyl that is!

 

Because instead of your regular 7” EP, band and label decided to release these four debut tracks on a single sided 12” piece of wax. Not just because it looks cooler and sounds better, there is also a technical reason, because with a playtime of 19 minutes and 33 seconds these four songs would have never fit on a 7” record! In my book a win-win situation for everyone involved.

 

Now if you paid attention in school you might have figured out that a total of four songs with a total playtime of nearly 20 minutes means long tracks. Now where some bands could get boring performing songs that never seem to end, Codi De Silenci is anything but! These tracks are so heavy, yet filled with so much melody resulting in a strong and brutal sound, that it feels like a bulldozer is slowly running you over! Lyrics are completely in Catalan language, so I hardly have any idea of what the songs “Surt Al Carrer”, “És El Moment”, “Estelada” and “Som Un Poble” are about. But track one, two and four translate into “Out On The Street”, “This Is The Moment” and “We Are One”, while the “Estelada” is the flag of Catalonia, just to give you an idea of what to expect from these guys.

 

It’s crazy, but Codi De Silenci delivered with “És El Moment” yet another incredible debut release. A must-hear if you like your Oi! music with a dose of heavy rock, lots of melodic guitar riffs and solo’s, strong, growly vocals and powerful gang vocals hitting harder than a ten pound hammer! Great band!
