Condor – Singles 2017-2018
Beach Impediment Records
Who doesn’t know Condor by now? Pretty much everyone I guess, as the first press of this 12” sold out in a heartbeat! But for those who aren’t in the know, Condor is one of the latest projects of Maxime Smadja, alias Digital Octopus, of Youth Avoiders, Boss and powerhouse RIXE – just to name a few, who recently released its vinyl debut for Beach Impediment Records!
“Singles 2017-2018” consists out of “Cassette Single #1” and “Cassette Single #2”, respectively released in 2017 and 2018. With the addition of a previously unreleased cover-song, namely “Vengeance” of Des Elephants Mauves, the track-list stacks up to a total of seven blistering tracks, delivering perfection in all its rawness!
Especially side A pleases me. Not because the B-side sounds worse – on the contrary actually, but because it has “Cassette Single #1” pressed on it – a tape that was impossible for me to find! Of course I’ve heard it, but nothing beats hearing “La Mer À Boire”, “Condor” and “Que Jeanesse Se Passe” on a crackling slab of wax, and that is exactly what Beach Impediment Records provided! Obviously this counts for the flipside as well, because as much as I love a good cassette – nothing beats vinyl, making sure “Chacun Pour Soi”, “Les Bourreaux Des Coeurs”, “Tapage Nocturne” and the aforementioned cover sound better than ever before!
So if you missed out on the cassettes due to financial, technical or logistical releases, grab this 12”! This is 80’s French Oi!-punk at its best, with the only difference that it was just released! Killer!
