It’s only been a few months since I got introduced to Criminal Damage for the first time. My bad, but Oi! / streetpunk is something I wouldn’t expect on a label such as Feral Ward, especially if you consider the fact that members of Criminal Damage are, or were, active in bands such as Walls, His Hero Is Gone and Tragedy, altough I have to admit I got some Tragedy vinyl in my collection and they happen to be fuck-in’-hard!
Now back to Criminal Damage, because they’re fuckin’ hard as well, but in a different way obviously. The reason this band is so hard is because they’re so good and have a kind of different sound than your average American streetpunk band, which has probably to do with the scenes some of the members usually operate in. There is lot’s of melancholy in both Criminal Damage’s sound and lyrics and songtitles like “Anxiety”, “Hopeless”, “Wait Of Silence”, “Bitter Days”, “Helpless” and the amazing titletrack “Call Of Death” speak for themselves.
Funny thing is that all this negativity makes Criminal Damage stand out in a very positive. I wouldn’t call the band unique (because really, what band is?), but there aren’t a lot of bands like Criminal Damage out there and therefor I highly recommend you give this band and record a chance, because “Call Of Death” is good, real good!
