Crown Court – Mad In England

Rebellion Records

I don’t think it’s fair to still label Crown Court as a ‘new’ band. After all, these Londoners have been causing havoc for well over five years already and earned their stripes fair and square as far as I’m concerned. Yet these madmen still manage to sound fresh and exciting with every new release they put out, even on a re-release of last year’s “Mad In England” EP!

Because it’s quite possible that this release is already in your collection, 2018’s version by Goner Records that is. I thought the label – known for garage punk releases by Oblivians, Reatards, Guitar Wolf etc... – and Crown Court were a weird combination from the start and the result was an evenly weird pressing, completely out of style with every single record these lads previously released.

Luckily Rebellion Records is about to set this straight, re-releasing the “Mad In England” EP with all new artwork. The old school, black and white artwork similar to “Trouble From London”, “The English Disease” and “Ruck And Roll” that is! Now obviously the music counts most, but in all honesty, due to Goner Records’ artwork I completely forgot about this record while compiling my year list of favorite records of 2018 – whoops.

With that being said, there obviously is nothing wrong with the three tracks on this 45. Moreover, this is probably Crown Court’s best work to date, sounding more powerful than ever before! Whether it’s the slow-paced stomper “On The GG’s” – nearly clocking five minutes – or the riotous anthems “Mad In England” (previously released as “Made In England” on “Oi! Ain’t Dead” Volume 6) and “Fight Or Fall” – it’s pure gold from start to finish and finally getting the full release it deserves! Must-have!
