Facção Opposta - Da Luz À Obscuridade

4Subculture Records

Three years after the band’s smashing debut full-length “Lendas Urbanas”, Lisbon’s stronghold Facção Opposta is back with their sophomore album “ Da Luz À Obscuridade”! “Lendas Urbanas”, and their variety of EP’s and split releases, already left a mighty good impression on me, so needless to say I was instantly stoked when I received all nine tracks of “ Da Luz À Obscuridade”, due for release on CD through 4Subculture Records!

What I love most about the band’s previous releases is their dark, metallic sound that is brought with sheer power. Something “Da Luz À Obscuridade” isn’t lacking of either! Without sounding like a plastic Oi! band, Facção Opposta’s style is simply brought with pure perfection. Every riff, every back-up vocal, whether it’s for barking out words in a sing-along or delivering gloom melodies as it does on (for example) “Farsante”, and every solo are right where they should be. In combination with the strong production, the result is simply stunning and always leaves you longing for more!

As said, Portugal’s powerhouse delivers a total of nine tracks on “ Da Luz À Obscuridade”. Seven of these tracks are brand new, the eighth song is a classy cover of Komintern Sect’s classic “Dans Les Tribunes” (featuring Wattie of Lion’s Law / RIXE / Atlantes etc...) and last, but not least, you’ll find “O Tempo Passa”. The latter originally appeared on last year’s split single with F.A.V.L., but is now also included on the CD version of Facção Opposta’s sophomore album, though I can’t confirm that it will feature on the LP version of “ Da Luz À Obscuridade” as well. Assuming it will also be released on (crazy limited) vinyl through Bigorna Records that is.

Vinyl or not, this CD is pure power! The production is firm, the metallic riffs and solos are explosive, the vocals (though I still don’t understand a word of it) are tough as nails and the melodies are dark and threatening! An absolute must by Portugal’s finest!
