Hooligan - Criminal Damage
Oi! The Boat Records
Dublin’s mob of punk rock hooligans, Hooligan, is back with yet another EP, their fourth to be more precise! Just like 2012’s “No Blacks, No Irish, No Dogs” this new slab of wax, entitled “Criminal Damage”, contains another four terrace ripping, punk rock anthems yet released again by our favorite captain of Oi! The Boat!
The classic sound of the heydays comes to mind while listening to “Criminal Damage”, “Street Punk Hero”, “Bastards” and “Keep The Faith”. Angry, melodic and anthemic punk rock in the vein of their fellow countrymen Stiff Little Fingers or living legends such as the UK Subs. Very solid songs combined with a strong sound, catchy melodies and great sing-alongs (while the band doesn’t particularly label themselves as an Oi! or streetpunk band) make this a must-hear for the ‘used to be better punks’, because I am sure they will change their minds after hearing Hooligan’s “Criminal Damage” EP.
I have to admit, I had these songs in my collection for a while already thanks to the U1F series, but I rushed through the series in all honesty and didn’t listen to every release as much as I should have. Glad I got pointed out at this release, because this is a top notch release if you are into the classic British punk sound!
