Horda – Faca No Pescoço

Combate Brutal

Only several weeks after listing Horda’s debut LP “Tolerância Zero” as one of my favorite full-length releases of 2022, the duo from Lisbon is back! This time around the Portuguese powerhouse unleashes a four-track EP with ten minutes of non-compromising, barbaric noise from southern Europe – just the way I like it!

Titled “Faca No Pescoço”, this slab of wax is once again released by Rattus’ own Combate Brutal and most likely sold out by the time you read this. For good reasons of course. Because aside of the fact that Horda is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands from Portugal, the releases of the label always look top notch – and “Faca No Pescoço” is no exception!

Limited to 200 copies total, the vinyl (all black) is evenly divided over two different covers and its lay-out is printed either silver on red or red on silver. The artwork is deceiving though. At first I thought the cover was just flipped horizontally only to realize later on that the two images were different. Yet both seem to be heavily influenced by the cover artwork of King Crimson’s “In The Court Of The Crimson King”, but luckily it just stays at that.

Because musically Horda takes you back to a time when boats were still made of wood and men were still made of steel. Violent, brute and with sheer power the duo cranks out four savage tunes like there’s no tomorrow! As always the scorchers that include some keys (keyboard, piano) to create some extra atmosphere are my favorites, namely “Selva De Cimento” and “Operário”, but obviously the two remaining tracks - “Vontade De Ferro” and title-track “Faca No Pescoço” are insane as well with their vile, brickwall sound and massive back-up vocals!

Must-have! But did you expect anything else from Combate Brutal?
