Lazy Class - First 3 Years
Oldschool Records
Writing a review about an album – in this case a compilation – you pretty much know every song of sounds easy, right? Well to be honest, it actually does. Especially if the compiling band in question – Lazy Class – is a band you've been following and helping out since the day you received their first, self-released mini-CD 'back' in 2014. All applying to me personally, we are three years further down the road now and Lazy Class thought it was a good time to grab everything that has been recorded so far, throw it on a CD and simply title it the "First 3 Years".
And with everything I mean everything. "First 3 Years" features all songs from the "Better Life" 7", the "Hell Of San Domingo" 10", Lazy Class' work of the split 12" with Max Cady, two compilation tracks and last (literally) but not least, two unreleased tracks. All this work collected on one compact disc adds up to a track list of 18 songs total, a royal collection considering the short period in which these songs were written, practiced and recorded. The real question obviously is, was this compilation necessary?
In all honesty, not really. None of Lazy Class' releases featured on "First 3 Years" are either out of print or were previously unavailable on CD. So if you already own the 7", 10", split 12" (like me) and the "Cashing In On Christmas Volume VII" and "Warsaw Hardcore Punk Attack Vol. 3" compilations (unlike me) you are good to go and pretty much complete. But with that being said, the nice, low price of this release and the killer melodic streetpunk / Oi! Lazy Class produces makes you forget and forgive the above fact almost instantly. Tracks like "Better Life", "Lazy Class", "Got Your Back" and "Hell Of San Domingo" remain killer and with the addition of the previously unpublished "Realize" and live-recorded "Fuck You" even the completists have something new to listen to.
So if you haven't been properly introduced to Lazy Class yet, "First 3 Years" is a good start. Not only does it contain every song the band recorded so far, it comes for a fair price and musically you won't be disappointed! And even if you have every single release of the band so far, once you insert this CD into your CD-player you don't have to worry about getting up, flipping and switching records or replacing the various CD's. We are the lazy class after all...
