Legion 76 - Banners Fall
Contra Records / Longshot Music
A band I just simply can't stop listening to is Legion 76. Ever since I heard their demo for the first time I've been hooked, and once that same demo was released on a 7" (Vinyl 4 Bootboys Records) - the floodgates really opened up for these guys! Two killer releases on Contra Records and Longshot Music (the "Brick And Bone" EP and the "Turning The Tide" split 7" with Seaside Rebels) and a storm over Europe later, the Philly boys are perhaps hungrier than ever before. Because not only are they on the verge of yet another European tour, they're also travelling with a brand new record packed into their suitcases - "Banners Fall"!
Unlike Legion's previous releases, who all happened to be on a 7", "Banners Fall" is their first official 'mini-album' and comes on a nice slab of 10" wax. Although it's not always the case, this time 'bigger = better' definitely is applicable! Not only does a bigger chunk of vinyl feels, sounds and looks better, it's also loaded with more anthems, which is always better in Legion 76's case!
On "Banners Fall" you'll find six, brand new powerhouses you want to keep on listening to over and over again. I have this ten ton hammer sitting on my mp3-player (phone) for over two months already, and not a day passed by without me getting my fix of Legion 76. Maybe I am biased (not sure why I would be), but this is some of the best (American) Oi! and streetpunk out there. The aforementioned releases were already incredible, but for this 10" the Philadelphians cracked open another case of brutality. Delivering one hard hitting anthem after another with catchy choruses, massive sing-alongs, heavy riffs and melodic little solos you get everything you would expect – but they still knock you out!
Legion 76 brings the thunder of the streets to your stereo with "Words Decay", "Rearranged", "Banners Fall", "Into Darkness", "Kicked Out" and "Guillotine" with disappointing for a single second! If you liked the previous EP's, and don't tell me that you didn't(!), you will love this 10" just as much – maybe a bit more! Believe the hype and don't sleep on "Banners Fall"!
