Lush Rush - S/T EP
Contra Records / Stryckhnine Recordz
Although Lush Rush were already formed back in 2014, the Parisian outfit never released anything on vinyl - until now that is! Because nearly six years after Lush Rush’ formation - with 2018’s demo-cassette in between - the band just released their first, self-titled slab of wax through Contra Records and Stryckhnine Recordz!
Recorded back in 2018, I wouldn’t be surprised if these songs were recorded during the same session as the aforementioned demo. “Gold Digger” - the only song on this three-track EP that also appeared on 2018’s cassette - sounds exactly the same, which is not a bad thing though - as it actually is my favorite song by this all-girl outfit!
Musically it’s not your usual Cup O’ Contra though! Lush Rush don’t make Oi!, not even streetpunk - but deliver a riotous mix of cold post-punk and noisy, 60’s garage punk and they do it pretty damn good. True, I am having some difficulties getting into opener “The Hunt”, but “Daily Grind” and the already mentioned “Gold Digger” are both great with their gloomy melodies and excellent vocals!
Available on either black (200 copies) or red (100 copies) vinyl, this release is definitely different, but definitely worth a go at the same time! So if you’re up for something else and got a minute or three to spare, check out the song that accompanies this review on the left!
