Mad Mulligans – Who Are The Mad Mulligans?

Rotten Bastard Records / Dammit Records

Straight out of the city that never sleeps come The Mad Mulligans, a brand new outfit featuring New York City veterans that were, or currently still are, active in bands such as The Krays, American Eagle, Skism, The New York Rel-X and Darkside NYC – just to name a few! The band just released its debut “Who Are the Mad Mulligans?” through Rotten Bastard Records (USA) and Dammit Records (UK), so time to check these guys out!

But before we do I’d like to point out there’s a significant difference between the American and British release, because where the version (that I received) of Rotten Bastard Records is the original release – the CD put out by Dammit Records includes a bonus-track (“Divided We Fall”) and is completely re-mastered, making the band sound richer and the CD sound better. So if you have the option to choose between the two – choose the latter.

Now when it comes down to the music I can tell you that the CD definitely grew on me. At first it didn’t really live up to the expectations I had regarding the members the Mad Mulligans have in its ranks, but eventually “Knock One Back”, “Bricks And Batteries”, “Jimmy Got Robbed”, “We Know Who You Are” and “Boop Boop Dittum Dattum Wattum Choo” grew on me and are highly enjoyable, especially on the British variant of this release! On the other hand you still got experimental tracks on it like “So Sure We’re Right” and “Life Just Ain’t Working Out Today” that just don’t do it for me – no matter how many times I listen to them.

All in all the combination of songs and those involved in the band make the Mad Mulligans’ “Who Are The Mad Mulligans?” a fun debut and although currently still a little rough around the edges - a promising outfit for the future to come!
