Nö Class - Painted In A Corner
Contra Records
With these tracks sitting on my computer since early 2018, I could have been one of the first to review Nö Class’ debut LP “Painted In A Corner”, but instead I am one of the last. Only God knows why though, because 2016’s self-released debut EP “Boot Boys” was already a scorcher, but with “Painted In A Corner” these imported New Zealanders out of Australia really outdone themselves, delivering one of the albums of 2018!
You could already tell by the aforementioned EP that these lads had an unique style, but with just four songs (on that 7”), it was perhaps still too early to tell which direction Nö Class was going. But guess what? They’ve gone in every direction possible! The ten songs on “Painted In A Cover” cover anything from bluesy rock to boisterous Oi! and from greasy rock ‘n’ roll to rowdy pub rock and they do an incredible job at incorporating all these styles into a dirty, crackin’ sound only Aussie bands seem capable of – despite if its members were born and raised Down Under or not!
Think of Rose Tattoo, Motörhead, Slaughter And The Dogs and Anti Nowhere League are having one big musical orgy and soon enough you’ll hear some Nö Class! Sure, it might be “No Class” from “Overkill” at first, but I can assure you that will soon change into “Cops Are Coming”, “Black & Blue”, “Neil Roberts”, “40 Years”, “Paid On A Friday” and “Carry Me Home” – indeed, all hard-hitting rockers off “Painted In A Corner”! Due to all these influences, this is pretty much an album for everyone to enjoy – so skins, punks, rockers, drunks, bikers, thugs, the whole lot of you – make sure you check the rough and ready sound of Nö Class out, you won’t be disappointed!
Sadly enough not all of Nö Class’ members lived to see the release of this LP with bassist Kalem passing away just weeks before its release. Dedicated in his memory, Kalem’s legacy will live on through one of the better albums of this year, making sure he will rest in power! Now it’s time for you to make sure you get this must-have sooner than later! Massive!
