One Voice - Tradition Not Trend

Sunny Bastards Records / Comandante Records

Featuring (ex-)members of Dörpms, The Diggerz and most notable – Evil Conduct, One Voice is a brand new outfit out of The Netherlands (1/3) and Germany (2/3). Skipping the whole demo and EP phase, the band instantly went for a full-length record – entitled “Tradition Not Trend” – which is out now on Sunny Bastards (CD/LP) and Comandante Records (LP)!

Now I have to admit that I had some doubts prior to receiving this CD. I wasn’t too charmed by the video the band made for the track “One Voice” and for some reason I was afraid that the whole album would be full of long, slow songs – but fortunately it is not!

Mixing that classic Oi! sound with small hints of psychobilly and ska, the Dutch – German alliance actually delivers a fun, catchy hybrid full of melody and sing-alongs with songs like “Tradition Not Trend”, “Better Days Will Come”, “Dead End Job”, “Hangover”, “They Will Never Know Why” and “Drink Some More”. Ironically enough though, the only other long, slow song on this LP – “Miners Tale”, telling the story of a hardworking man, making long days in the dark, dirty mines in the south of Limburg to support his family – is my favorite, good stuff!

All in all, “Tradition Not Trend” is a solid debut LP and One Voice is a welcoming addition to the Lowlands of Oi!... Oh, and Germany of course.
