Oxley’s Midnight Runners’ veteran line-up (featuring members of Fatskins, Rancid/OFC and 90 Proof) heavily impressed last year (2014) with the release of their debut EP “We Are Legion” for Randale Records and Oi! The Boat Records. That this was just an introduction to the ‘legion’ shows with the Midnight Runners’ latest outburst, the “Invasion” EP!

 

And what a powerhouse “Invasion” has become! Mike Oxley and his Midnight Runners raid the airwaves with brute force on these three brand new, explosive, tracks of pure Oi! and punk-rock geniuses! With every track on here Oxley’s Midnight Runners go for the kill, take no prisoners and show no remorse whatsoever on the bands anthemic opener “Midnight Runner” and the remaining battle hymns; “Abbas The Great” and “Land Of Gold”. Armed with the truth, a little sarcasm, loud guitars and Mike’s significant vocals these tracks are, as the song-titles unintentionally suggest, absolutely ‘great’ and pure ‘gold’!

 

Oxley’s Midnight Runners’ band members already proven in the past that they can write strong, catchy tunes with great accompanying lyrics. But while I keep listening these three tracks over and over again it really feels like Mike, Lars, Jeff and Dave outdid themselves on this one since it’s pretty much a flawless EP in my book with three killer tracks. If they can lift the top-quality of this 7” to a full-length album, the ‘invasion’ will turn into a ‘sensation’! Mark my words.
