Rough Cuts – Nobody’s Fool

Insurgence Records / Contra Records

Straight out of Toronto, Ontario hails Rough Cuts – the self-proclaimed new breed of Canadian Oi! who released their first, four-track demo on cassette last summer (2019) through HoM Records. Now the lads, featuring members of Dirty Work and Reckless Upstarts, are back with their debut full-length “Nobody’s Fool” – a killer record released by Insurgence Records and Contra Records!

With that straight-forward, no-nonsense sound – Hogtown’s powerhouse delivers one scorcher after another! Brute vocals, superb melodies and massive sing-alongs seem to be the recipe for as good as every title on Rough Cuts’ first LP, instantly launching themselves into the cream of the crop of Canada’s Oi! and streetpunk scene!

Delivering thirteen tracks total, the band mixes that classic Oi! sound with a hard-hitting, modern swing – without forgetting its roots. This can also be traced back to the two covers “Nobody’s Fool” ends with, namely Street Troopers’ “Clockwork Fun” and The Bleechers’ “Come Into My Parlour” – two great pickings indeed. But with that being said, I highly prefer Rough Cuts’ own tracks such as “Ignorant And Proud”, “The Chosen Few”, “Nobody’s Fool”, “New Breed” or “Not Alone” – so much power and melody, I love it!

Available on either red (Insurgence Records, 150 copies) or black vinyl (Contra Records, 150 copies), the album is housed in a thick sleeve and features some excellent artwork on the front cover. No bullshit, nür hits!
