Over the past months I have received almost the whole backcatalogue of 4Subculture Records to review. Altough I’m little over half of what I have to review my judgement so far that pretty much every release by this Czech label is of good to high quality. Needless to say I was pretty excited when 4Subculture’s latest release dropped in my mailbox this week.
This time it’s the full-length debut album from French band Ruthless Pride called “Underground Brotherhood”. I personally love the French Oi! and punk bands like Komintern Sect, Snix, Warrior Kids and many more. Over the years these bands released legendary albums that are all-time favorites of punks and skins worldwide. But where about 90% of all these bands sing in their native language Ruthless Pride have choosen the international path with all of their lyrics in English.
Besides the chosen language to sing in Ruthless Pride also doesn’t have much in common with earlier mentioned bands musicwise. This band plays real rough and tough Oi! music with (small) influences from other genres such as hardcore, punk and metal. A style like that can be pretty cool, and on some songs it turns out to good, but unfortunately not on every track which can make it a hard album to listen to from time to time.
If I gave points on this website I’d give it 65 outof 100 points. It’s not bad, but 4Subculture Records definitley have far better releases under it’s belt, so it’s really up to yourself to decide if you’re into this band and it’s music or not.
