Scandal – Street Punk
Self-released
The recipe for Scandal’s latest release is exactly the same as last year’s debut “Back In Town”. It’s on CD, it’s self-released and it contains a total of five tracks – only question is if these five tracks deliver the potential the band displayed on 2016’s “Back In Town”? Because as I wrote last year, Scandal’s ideas sounded promising, it was just a bit rough around the edges…
But once again, I was right – because Scandal definitely stepped up their game and improved their sound on “Street Punk”, making them instantly sound five times better. You hear this back the best on “Need To Learn” and “It’s Just Punk Rock”, simply because they have been re-recorded and you have the original recordings of “Back In Town” as a reference. Honestly, it sounds so much better that it even made me wonder who they stole “Need To Learn” from – because it sounded so familiar – only to find out a few minutes later that it has been re-recorded.
Therefor I have to give Scandal’s members Vlad, Gabi, Andy and GG the credit they deserve. Because not just on the previously released tracks the band sounds like a well-oiled machine, the new tracks “Trouble”, “Bad Reputation” and “Working In The UK” are pure class as well – making you wonder why no label hasn’t thrown these tracks on a slab of vinyl just yet.
So for now we’ll have to settle for the self-released, self-produced (printed CD-R) version of “Street Punk”. But if you like your streetpunk with great melody, often up-tempo and (obviously) the occasional sing-along – you definitely need to check Scandal out on CD or through their Bandcamp page over at https://scandalstreetpunk.bandcamp.com/album/street-punk!
