Seaside Rebels - Changing Times...

Contra Records / Longshot Music

Back in 2013, when the Seaside Rebels were still Greek (Rhodes Island) and eating gyros, the band recorded four tracks for their debut EP “Changing Times”. Two years later it’s 2015 and front man Bubbles is a fish ‘n chips eating Londoner, who played a little bass with Booze & Glory on their “As Bold As Brass” LP and sees the debut of his reformed Seaside Rebels being released after all on Contra Records and Longshot Music.

As you can read, the title of this 7” is not a joke. Times have definitely changed for the Seaside Rebels over the past two years, but absolutely not for the worse as Freddy Cricien once sang to us in “Pride”. So not just the band takes advantage from the release of “Changing Times”, but you and me, listeners of some proper Oi! and punk music as well!

Because that’s what the Seaside Rebels produce, at least in 2013 thus on “Changing Times”, a good mix of tough sounding Oi! music  (“Wrong Or Right”) and ultra-melodic, but still heavy bass-driven’, punkrock on the remaining three tracks. Therefor the Seaside Rebels’ sound has a lot of resemblances with for instance label mates Secret Army, while lyrics are heartfelt and melancholic. Great stuff.

I wonder if the sound of Seaside Rebels remains the same with the new line-up. The recording line-up consisted by members of other Greek Oi!, punk and rock ‘n’ roll bands like Broken Glasses, Oi! Askimoi!, BMW Rockers 57 and Χαλιαμάγκουρες who sounded like they wanted to do ‘something else’ than that they were doing with their other bands, let’s hope that spirit remains! Great debut EP nonetheless!
