Sheer Terror - Standing Up For Falling Down

Randale Records / Reaper Records

Who would have thought? Over 18 years after Sheer Terror’s last, real, album “Love Songs For The Unloved” that the band would return with a brand new full-length record? Sure, in the past 18 years some Sheer Terror releases saw the light of day, but the patience of the fans got tested with live records, compilations and EP’s, but now the wait is over, because “Standing Up For Falling Down” is here! And well worth the wait!

Because holy shit, this record is beast! I haven’t heard the new Slapshot yet… I haven’t heard the new Madball yet… But this is the best hardcore record of the year! Period! 2012 and 2013 were clearly won by the Boston scene and its ongoing stream  if amazing hardcore records (you know what bands I am talking about if you keep check on our page and website), but this year Sheer Terror is putting New York Hardcore single handedly back on the map with “Standing Up For Falling Down”.

Rev. Paul Bearer hasn’t lost his touch for writing amazing songs and lyrics and if you forget the nostalgic and classics factor of Sheer Terror’s previous records you must agree with me that this record is without a doubt their most incredible work to date. Musically it’s still 100% Sheer Terror, fast and furious NYHC on “Heartburn In G”, “Weird, Jealous And Fat”, “Love You Like A Leper” and “Cigarettes & Farts”, songs with a strong streetrock/Oi! vibe like “Boots, Braces & Alimony”, “Did You Just Meet Me?” (amazing song!) and “Singalongastupid” to that odd Sheer Terror song, “Coffee, 5 Sugars”, that includes a brass section but still fits in perfectly with the rest. It’s all Sheer Terror, it’s all here and I am fuckin’ loving it!

You can’t go around this album this year. If you are a Sheer Terror fan, you already got it. If you are a fan of NYHC, hardcore in general or Oi! and streetrock, you need to hear this. It will blow you away, and maybe some more but certainly nothing less! Perhaps even the best album of the year. Amen.
