Skinfull - Good Intentions... Bad Ideas

El Capitan Records / Skinflint Music

Along with the LP release of Close Shave’s “Bad Reputation”, Skinfull’s brand new album “Good Intentions... Bad Ideas” is probably one of the most anticipated British Oi! releases of 2014. Not so strange of course, the boys from Coventry already left a good impression in the past with their ’09 debut CD “Drinking Class Heroes”, their split 12” with Bakers Dozen and the “British Bootboys” EP in 2012. Since then the band has been working on new tunes that now, two years after their last release on Clockwork Firm, have been self-released by the band’s own El Capitan Records on CD and on LP by US label Skinflint Music.

Besides the exchangeable in –and outro Skinfull present twelve new tracks on “Good Intentions... Bad Ideas”. Some of these songs you might recognize from their live shows (as long as they don’t get ‘zensiert’ by the ‘polizei’) and others are so brand spankin’ new that even band members pops and moms hear these for the first time! And we are all in for a treat, because despite the standard topics in Skinfull’s lyrics (I think titles like “Skins Don’t Run”, “Stand Proud, Stand True”, “Head Kicked In”, “Patriots”, “Bootboys”, “Warrior” and “Bulldog Breed” speak for themselves), they aced it when it comes down to the sound on “Good Intentions... Bad Ideas”! I couldn’t care less about originality in lyrics if they’re well written, fit the sound and the music itself makes up for it extensively. This is without a doubt the case with Skinfull’s latest, and unfortunately last, release.

Because after this release and a few more shows Skinfull is throwing the towel into the ring, game over. But with “Good Intentions... Bad Ideas” (and their previous releases of course) they left an impressive legacy of cream of the crop British Oi! music you wished more bands from ‘the island’ would play. With well thought out songs, incredible guitar riffs and solos the good intentions of Skinfull didn’t turn out so bad after all, making “Good Intentions... Bad Ideas” an absolute must-hear if you like your Oi! music British and proud!
