On the 7th of May Germany’s Steeltown Records will celebrate their 10 year anniversary with a nice evening of Oi! and punk music featuring 51 Grad, The Cunninghams, High Society, The Suburbs and Smart Attitude. The show will also be a record release party for the latter one as Steeltown Records will release Smart Attitude’s second 7” single, “Stolz & Frei”, on the same day!

 

And with both the band’s self-titled demo and their debut single “Ein Leben Lang b/w Trautes Heim” being released nearly four years ago, it was about time! But as the band stated themselves in their explanation on why only 77(!) copies of “Stolz & Frei” are being pressed, there isn’t any intention on getting ‘bigger’ or becoming more ‘famous’, which are also two perfectly valid reasons on not being so productive when it comes down to releases as well, and that is a shame!

 

Because just like the two tracks on their debut 7”, Smart Attitude manages to impress with both tracks on “Stolz & Frei” as well! Those 68 lucky ones who managed to pick up the band’s demo in 2012 (number 69 is being shipped to me right now), might recognize both tracks on this 45 already, but obviously both the title-track “Stolz & Frei” as well as the flipside “Keine Angst” have been re-recorded and sound absolutely mint! I love that clean guitar sound, Ted’s vocals sound top, the refrains are catchy as well (despite being in German) and the ska-influenced verses give their sound a nice twist!

 

Smart Attitude: I know you guys dont want to get big or famous, but please, if you keep producing songs like this at least do some more releases! Thank you very much.
