Stellar Corpses – Hellbound Heart
Demons Run Amok Entertainment
Demons Run Amok is a label best known for its hardcore, metal and a combination of both – metalcore, releases, not so much for their psychobilly releases. Actually, I can’t recall anything psychobilly – or horrorpunk for that matter – related being released by the Germans… until now that is! Because on the 13th of April – yup that is Friday the 13th, Demons Run Amok goes all out with a reissue of the first The Brains album “No Brain, No Pain” and a brand new mini-CD by Cali’s Stellar Corpses, entitled “Hellbound Heart”!
I received – and am now reviewing – the latter, but please be kind Demons Run Amok and send me that The Brains CD as well! Thank you. Because unlike the title of this page might suggest, I am also a big fan of both psychobilly and horrorpunk, so I’m actually happy I got a copy of Stellar Corpses’ latest release in for a review, a band – and though not on a daily base – I have been listening to for nearly a decade already.
As mentioned earlier, “Hellbound Heart” is a mini-CD, or EP as you wish, featuring five brand new songs. Stellar songs that is! Because despite the fact that this band formed in the mid-00’s – self-releasing their first in 2006 the band and its sound just keep on growing, with these five tracks definitely being their best work to date! Proving that the line between psychobilly and horrorpunk (I didn’t kept mentioning both genres for no reason) can be very thin at times, Stellar Corpses takes the best of bands like The Brains, Rezurex, Calabrese and Nim Vind – molding it into a ghoulish sound of their own!
A very accessible sound that is, mainly because of Dusty Grave’s excellent, clean vocals and superb guitar melodies. All tracks, despite their explicit content (it is a psychobilly release after all), could easily air on the radio if we lived in a better world. But we don’t. So if you like some of the aforementioned bands, the only way to hear “Hellbound Heart” (featuring Jimmy Calabrese), “Dark Side Of The American Dream”, “Cruel And Unusual”, “She’ll Claw Your Eyes Out” and “In Her Lover’s Arms” is to buy this CD. And if you like some of those aforementioned bands, I highly suggest you do!
