With “Death Toll” San Francisco based Sydney Ducks bring us their fourth EP. I really loved the band’s first two records and unfortunately I couldn’t get my hands on their third 7” which contained their 2009 demo and ironicly was sold at their European tour, which happens to be the continent I live in. Oh well, time for EP number four!
Again this record is very limited, only 250 copies were pressed in three different colours while 50 of them (black vinyl) were sold at the Pirates Press Anniversary Party, so basicly that’s 200 copies for the rest of the world. That’s not a whole lot if you ask me, especially for a band that seems to become so populair within the scene over the past few years.
That this band became so loved isn’t so weird. Their previous work was simply said great and this EP is no exception. Altough I must admit I’m a bit dissapointed by the fact that this record only brings one new track, “Death Toll”, and a cover song by 70’s blues rock ‘n’ roll veterans Third World War in the form of “A Little Bit Of Urban Rock”. It’s still top of the bill streetpunk with no further questions asked but I’d like to hear more from these guys!
If you liked their previous work you will not be dissapointed by “Death Toll”, still I’m wondering how a full-length by these guys would sound. A lot of bands are just releasing one EP a year and altough I always prefer quality over quantity I’m still wondering why there are so many bands who can do it and also so many who can’t. Who knows…
