Originally “A Clockwork Army” was released by The Black Marias themselves in 2011. Last year the new German label Poink Records picked up this album for a re-release. It’s a good thing they did, because now a lot of more people can ejoy this CD, and I personally think it would have been a shame if that was not possible!
Because “A Clockwork Army” is a real good and fun record to listen to! What you get is 13 tracks of catchy and melodic Streetpunk / Oi! music from British soil that doesn’t seem to bore a bit. Sure, the music sounds a bit simple at times, but who said complicated music is good music in the first place? After a few spins you already know half the words which makes it even more fun to listen and sing along to, altough your neighbors might disagree on that one if you can’t sing.
The Black Marias don’t sound as tough and as rough as a lot of the other British bands out there today. Instead The Black Marias remind me a bit of Major Accident in both their music and vocals but with a harder edge around them. Did I ever mentioned I love Major Accident?
