The Drowns – The Sound
Pirates Press Records
I must admit that I’ve slept on The Drowns’ debut album “View From The Botton” (released late 2018 on Gunner Records), but why? Who knows, because this brand new single on Pirates Press Records – entitled “The Sound” – absolutely rips from front to back!
Featuring (ex-)members of Time Again, Madcap, The Briggs and many more, The Drowns deliver two explosive punk rock anthems on this double A-sided 45 – instantly making you long for more! A mix of bands such as Noi!se, early Swingin’ Utters, The Vigilantes – but also a band like Off With Their Heads – come to mind while flipping this slab of wax over and over again!
With a switch of lead-vocal duties between “The Sound” and “The Bricks Of Ol’ Rainier” there is quite a lot going on, on something as little as a 7” – but trust me, it won’t bother you for a single second! “The Sound” is catchy as hell and will have you singing along in no-time, while “The Bricks Of Ol’ Rainier” is a boisterous powerhouse that could have easily been one of the top-tracks on any of TKO Records’ “Punch Drunk” compilations! Good stuff indeed.
Much alike one of Pirates Press Records’ previously released 7-inches – the massive split EP between The Complicators and Empire Down – The Drowns’ debut for this label is housed in a printed polybag, both complimenting and completing the picture sleeve the vinyl – available on cokebottle green (200 copies), red (300 copies) and beer colored (500 copies) – is in. Love it!
