Tim Steinfort - When The Rain Falls

Randale Records

Most of you will know Tim Steinfort as the front man of Dutch powerhouse Discharger. But heavy streetrock and Oi! aren’t Tim’s only specialties, he also knows how to write a heartfelt, personal and street-wise tunes with just an acoustic guitar and a fantastic voice as his only two weapons. In 2013 ten of these songs were captured on his self-released solo debut “When The Rain Falls”, that recently has ...been reissued by Randale Records.

For this reissue “When The Rain Falls” has been upgraded from a regular jewelcase to a digipack with three additional bonus tracks on top of the ten previously released songs that are quite the opposite of Tim’s band Discharger. Because where later albums like “The Sword Of Our Ancestors” and “Desecrated Ground” had a very big and powerful wall of sound, the 90% acoustic “When The Rain Falls” has a very intimate and warm sound (despite some of the lyrics) influenced by the likes of Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan.

Of course a comparison to fellow countryman and former label-mate Victor Nefkens of Badlands and his acoustic project Solitary Way is easily made, but besides a fantastic voice and an acoustic there aren’t that much resemblances. Because where Victor’s solo album was much more singer/songwriter orientated, Tim’s solo work has far more folk and Americana influences with the additional rock’n’roll bite (“At Least I’m Being Honest” or the ‘electric’ “The Gambling Man”, featuring Sven Post, that is one of the three bonus tracks) making the difference.

If you already had the original 2013 release, Randale’s reissue is still worth your buck, simply because the two remaining bonus tracks, “Weekend Way Of Life” and “Seize The Day”, are absolutely stunning with amazing lyrics easily to relate to and a beautiful sound. Of course an acoustic sound is something that you shouldn’t mind, but even if you are not and you do are a fan of Discharger you will most likely appreciate Tim’s solo work as well. Excellent!
