V/A - Made In Japan

Mother Fucking Sounds

Limited, hard to find, rare, expensive… yup, times are tough when you are a collector of Japanese Oi! music. Luckily enough some of it gets re-released one way or another making them affordable again for those whose pockets aren’t that deep. Something that is exactly the case with the “Made In Japan” compilation released by Mother Fucking Sounds  in 2011.

Divided over two CD’s you get eight of Japans greatest and toughest Oi! bands out there spread out over 42(!) tracks. Bands included on “Made In Japan” are the Bad Vultures, Bull The Buffalos, The Hawks, Sledgehammer, Ikazuchi, Cannons, Ouka and Eastern Youth. While every track was previously available on a release from either the short lived Steve Priest Fan Club or Vulture Rock Records, most of it was released on vinyl. That way this a great compilation if you don’t own a turntable or if you are in the the need of some sort of ‘best of’ compilation of the SPFC / Vulture Rock days!

I say this because there is simply not a bad band or song on “Made In Japan”. It was Vulture Rock that introduced me to these bands of the rising sun in my teenage years and to me, and most likely others among you readers as well, these are glory days of Japanese Oi! and skinhead music. These bands were always in beast mode, whether it be the sick mini-LP by Bull The Buffalos, Sledgehammer’s “Anthem” EP (both fully included in this set) or the Eastern Youth contributions to the “Fight Back For The Rising Sun” compilation, it’s all incredible powerful and without a doubt some of the best stuff ever produced on the island!

I know the review is a tad late, but this compilation still remains great! Samurai Spirit!
