V/A - New Breed Rising
Rebellion Records / 100% British Oi! Productions
British Oi! is on the rise again. Although the English might beg the differ it are pretty much still the old bands that have to carry the banner while in surrounding countries new and great bands keep on poppin’ up. Four of those bands are featured on the new compilation “New Breed Rising” with four brand new songs each.
Two out of four bands, Queensbury Rules and No Quarter, I was already familiar with through their EP releases on Lionheart Records but Adverse Society and Steel Comb are completely new to me. Now it’s my job to describe each band to you, but pretty much all four bands have that raw, violent and unpolished sound that real British Oi! bands always had which makes every band on here remind me of classic 80’s Oi! bands such as Condemned 84, Anti-Social, Combat 84 and Close Shave.
Favorite tracks on here are opener, and also title track, “New Breed Rising” by Queensbury Rules, “Working Class” by Adverse Society, “Aint What I Call Oi!” by No Quarter and “Skinhead Girl” by Steel Comb, with the last song probably being the easiest going on this CD while the remaining 17 songs on “New Breed Rising” are mainly songs about anger, skinhead subculture, patriotism, work and so on… which make this a real tough compilation album along with the earlier mentioned raw, violent and unpolished sound.
If you want to know what is up in the United Kingdom these days, this record is a great catch. Also it’s good to hear that there is a ‘new breed rising’ so the old British horde can retire some day in peace now and don’t have to perform until they’re 70, unless your name is Charlie Harper of course.
