V/A – Portugal Oi! – Vol. 2

Zerowork Records/The Firm Records

It’s only been a year since Zerowork Records and The Firm Records released the first volume in the “Portugal Oi!” compilation series, but volume two is already in the books! The recipe is much alike the first volume, with the only exception that the songs are far more vinyl exclusive this time around!

Because where the first volume contained a good chunk of tracks that were previously released on vinyl (whether they were still available due to the limitation of the release in question is a different story), the second volume has a good chunk of tracks that were never available on vinyl before – or on any physical format for that matter!

As far as my knowledge goes, the tracks of Mata Ratos, Bloody Disgrace, Labrego and Ruas are previously unreleased, while tracks of Cavalaria 77, Taberna, Judeus and Self Rule were only available on cassette or good old Cdr’s (remember those?) in a previous life. Only Atlantes’ “Marée Haute” has been out on vinyl since 2019 and while Sistema’s “De Copo Na Mão” is a long time fan favorite, the version contributed to this compilation is a brand new re-recording (at least I think it is) – evening the score of new and previously released tracks.

But as said earlier, this is the only exception. Because just like the first volume, the second volume holds ten bands and songs total, spins at a rousing 45 revolutions per minute, is limited to just 300 hand-numbered copies worldwide and kicks ass! Sure, this installment might be a little more punk than Oi! orientated, but it still delivers hit after hit and gives you another great insight of what Portugal has to offer when it comes down to Oi! and punk – love it!

If you already own volume 1, volume 2 is a must. If you don’t, get both right now! Top quality as always!
