Vanilla Muffins are without a doubt one of my all-time favorites. I could listen to these guys all day if I want to (just ask my old roommate, drove him nuts haha) and it never gets bored. After all these years I am still hungry for some Sugar Oi! and this time it’s Spirit Of The Streets Records (Bandworm) that feeds my hunger with the “The Triumph Of Sugar Oi!” compilation.

 

Personally I am not a huge fan of ‘best of’ compilations, the only Vanilla Muffins compilation that I own is the “Hail! Hail! Sugar Oi!” double LP, but to me a discography compilation is a little different than a ‘best of’ record that doesn’t add anything to the collection, so I skipped the CD’s “The Power Of Sugar Oi!”, “The Great Sugar Oi! Swindle” and “The Greatest Sugar Oi! Swindle” (although I’d still buy them if I could get them somewhere cheap). So what does “The Triumph Of Sugar Oi!” add to the collection? Well first of all, unlike the just mentioned compilation CD’s this one is available on limited vinyl (250 copies, 2 colors, 125 copies each on grey and clear vinyl) and... IT HAS A NEW SONG ON IT! Yes ladies and gentlemen, as you might know already, the founding fathers of Sugar Oi! are back and recording again!

 

Vanilla Muffins’ newest jam is called “The Sugar Oi! Jive”, it might differ slightly from their previous work, but still has that Vanilla Muffins vibe with a nostalgic sound and nostalgic lyrics. It’s the opening track of this record and given the fact that I played this song over and over again it justified the purchase of this LP to me. Besides “The Sugar Oi! Jive” you get 13 classic Vanilla Muffins tracks such as “Storm Over England”, “Blue Red Forever”, “You Come Back To Switzerland”, “The Drug Is Football”, “Brigade Loco”, “Saturday”, “3 Comrades” and “The One And Only”, heard them all from a hundred to a thousand times before, and like I said, it never gets bored!

 

Of course all of this is just a little teaser to the upcoming 12” EP that will be released by Sunny Bastards and will have four brand new tracks in total. Until that time, it’s only about two weeks away by the time I write this, I’ll keep on doing the Sugar Oi! jive and celebrate “The Triumph Of Sugar Oi!”!
