Volxsturm - Gegenschlag / Hardcore Kid

Sunny Bastards Records

Volxsturm is a German Oi! band that has been around for ages, with their first releases dating back all the way to 1994 these guys are going strong for 20 years already and still counting! Because despite the fact that Volxsturm have been radio silent for the last 3 or so years when it comes down to releasing records Sunny Bastards Records now brings you the “Gegenschlag / Hardcore Kid” EP. A double A sided 12” maxi-EP that should be the perfect warm-up for their upcoming full-length LP “Massenuntauglich”!

The A side contains “Gegenschlag” and is a real German Oi!/streetrock hammer! A very powerful song with both catchy hooks and choruses that make it real easy to sing-along to despite the lyrics being in their native tongue. It would be unfair to compare this long running band from Schwerin, Germany with other bands because of them being around for such a long time already, so if you like your streetmusic fueled by bratwurst and Bitburger beer you will love this track.

When you flip over this 12” to the AA side you will find two tracks, “Hardcore Kid” and “Fight To Live”. “Hardcore Kid” is the second new track on this EP and features Roger Miret from the legendary Agnostic Front. It’s not bad, the lyrics are absolutely true (“Never trust a hardcore kid that doesn’t listen to punk…”) and it’s partly in German and partly in English. But I prefer the A side over the AA side and Volxsturm’s tribute to Blitz with a cover version of “Fight To Live” isn’t going to change that.

Still this is another nice addition to the Super Sound Single series from Sunny Bastards that is growing out into a pretty damn cool collection of maximum power 12” EP’s!
